Wales
Our tour through Wales was very brief. We took the train up From Milton Keynes, through Chester and along the north coast of Wales, to the pretty seaside village of Llandudno. Llandudno in Wales is not at all like the Llundudno in Cape Town. Despite the fact that it was a chilly 8 degrees C, the beach is made up of rocks, the seafront is chock-a-block with 3-storey hotels, and the water is a dull browny-grey. Pretty, though, in a wintery, Welsh kind of way.
One of the first things that struck us in Wales was the language - on signs, on trains, everywhere. What a crazy looking language. It made a bit more sense when we learned that 'w' and 'y' are actually vowels. Interesting to hear people speaking Welsh on the street - they have done a great job at resurrecting the language.
