Scotland
Our trip to Scotland was slightly less brief than to Wales, but still only two days to have some down time and experience the culture. We got off the luxurious and surprisingly smooth ferry at Cairnryan and had a chilly wait for a bus to take us the 12km to our place in Stranraer. Stranraer is a quaint little seaside village - much quieter now since the ferry moved further up the Loch. We stayed in a cosy little B&B and sampled haggis and tatty scones as part of our full Scottish breakfast. Despite the chilly wind we braved a walk around the harbour and up the beach. After a day and a half by the sea, we trekked to the train station for a trip up to Glasgow. Yet another comfortable and scenic train ride past an astonishing number of sheep and golf courses! Fortunately the train stopped very near to the airport, so we jumped off, took a short bus ride and ended up at the Glasgow airport a good few hours in advance of our flight back to London. ANother near miss, as there had been a bomb scare at the airport that morning, and the airport had been evacuated for 6 hours! So far we have narrowly missed an airport ground crew strike at Heathrow by a day, a rail strike across the UK and a bomb scare. Our time will come when we won't be so lucky.
